Enercon GmbH is one of the world’s largest manufacturers of wind turbines. The largest manufacturer of wind generators in Germany. In 2007, Enercon held 50.3% of the German market and 14% of the world wind generator market.
Enercon produces industrial wind generators with power from 330 kW. Up to 7.58 MW. The main feature of Enercon wind generators is the lack of a transmission and ring generator.
ENERCON began its path to economic/ecological success when graduate engineer Aloys Wobben founded the company in 1984. A small team of engineers developed the first E-15/16 wind turbine with a nominal power of 55 kW. To begin with, ENERCON systems still featured gearboxes. However, in 1992, the transition to gearless technology took place with the first ENERCON E-40/500 kW. This innovative drive system with few rotating components ensures nearly frictionless power flow, delivering outstanding performance and reliability. Mechanical demand, operating and maintenance costs are reduced and system life is increased.
Today, all ENERCON wind power converters are based on the company’s tried and tested turbine concept. In recent years, new generations of systems have evolved through the constant sophistication of existing components, offering customers state-of-the-art products. An example of the latest technological innovation is the new rotor blade geometry introduced in 2004. It significantly increases revenue, minimizes noise emissions, while significantly reducing the load impact on the wind energy converter.
All ENERCON systems feature a grid connection system that meets current grid connection requirements and can thus be easily integrated into any supply and distribution structure. The ENERCON concept not only provides solutions for normal operation, such as reactive power management and voltage control, but also for critical situations resulting from short circuits or network blockages.
Since then ENERCON has been setting new standards in technological design for 30 years. With more than 22,000 wind turbines installed in over 30 countries, ENERCON is also recognized as one of the leading manufacturers internationally. Research and development as well as production and sales are constantly evolving.
